18 Jun Fighting Cybercrime – One Voice at a Time
Did you know that the Federal Trade Commission collected more than 1.4 million fraud reports in 2018, with people reporting losing $1.48 Billion to fraud? The top three reports were imposter scams, identity theft and debt collection. While the numbers alone are staggering, many victims of cybercrimes have nowhere to turn to find out how to survive these crimes, rebuild and restore their identities and have their voices heard.
I’m Kristin Judge, President and CEO of the Cybercrime Support Network (CSN) and our mission is to improve the plight of Americans facing the ever-growing impact of cybercrime by bringing together national partners to support cybercrime victims. CSN is a public-private, nonprofit collaboration created to meet challenges facing millions of people and businesses affected each and every day by cybercrime. We are the only national organization providing a voice for these victims.
My personal passion and commitment to this mission began in 2011 when serving as a county elected official I received calls from constituents asking where they could go to report and receive help as victims of online crime. Consulting with local law enforcement it quickly became apparent that there was no one source of information and assistance. Further research and partnerships with organizations led me to realize that cybercrime victims want and need a one stop resource to guide them through the report, recover and reinforce process. CSN is dedicated to bringing together partners to make this a reality nationwide.
